Don’t Screw This Up!

Querrey, who defeated Nishikori 6-3, 6-4 yesterday, continued his title defense with a 7-5 (6), 5-7, 6-3 win over Schuettler today in Queens. That’s the 2nd match in a row that Sam has won since…forever?

Actually, it was the first time since Indian Wells. I am surprised by that fact too, but he beat Tipsy (6-4, 6-4) and Verdasco (7-5, 6-4). Really! I know, I wouldn’t believe me either, here’s the link.

Querrey should have faced Stan Wawrinka in the next round. But Stan lost to…James Ward? A British tennis player who is not Andy Murray? In other words, a minor miracle from the tennis gods?!?!

Do not throw away waste their gift, Sammy! If the tennis gods want a title defense, and you best deliver! So stop wasting break point opportunities and shouting “Gosh” when you drive your backhand into the net (Thanks @appleaddicto for that live on-court tid-bit)!

You won this tournament last year because you were similarly gifted a draw of dreams! I know you do not remember this, but winning titles is quite fun. And this is a 250! You’ve so got this.

So yeah, don’t screw up. Please and thank you.

    Super write up, Jen!
It made me relive the match in my mind.
I think this was quite a positive match from Sam to turn it around like that after the second set ‘blip’. I do hope he can put James Ward back in his box where he sprung out from (I dread to think what the British press will make of this in the morning!). So, hurrah to Sam, I look forward to seeing him on Thursday.
