Novak Djokovic defeated Jo-Willy Tsonga 7-6, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 in the semifinals of Wimbledon today. Not only has Novak reached his very first Wimbledon final, but he will become the #1 player in the world for the very first time in this career.
Who would have thought a year ago, when Djokovic slunked out of the semis in an ugly loss to Berdych, that he would improve this much, both physically, and more importantly, mentally. He maintained a steady focus throughout the match against Tsonga. When Jo came back in the 4th set, he did not panic, or mutter at his box, or smash his racquet. He pushed all negativity aside, kept his cool, and wrestled back control of the match.
So congratulations, Nole. You have worked hard and earned the top spot. Now keep this level up on Sunday against Rafa!
