Berdych was still suffering from the shoulder injury that had forced him to retire a couple weeks ago in Cincinnati during his match yesterday against Tipsarevic. I mean, don’t get me wrong, there was no way in hell even a healthy Tomas was going to win that match. But still, it was too bad to not be able to see him play to his full potential.
And crowd, I know retirements suck for everyone involved. But booing? We’ve been through this before (*cough* Montreal *cough*). Not the classiest way to show your disappointment. How about next time saying, “Awwwwww.” That would adequately express your sadness about there being no more tennis, and not make the player feel even shittier about retiring.
But get better, Berdy. You are in no way one of my faves, but it’s no fun to hate on way when you look hurt and pathetic.

Booing sucks for sure, I just don’t get it with crowds like that. Did they expect Berdych to continue the match until his arms drops off? Injuries suck and these guys know that they can crop up at any moment and there is often no other alternative but to retire/withdraw. I can understand the disappointment in the crowd when this happens, but to boo at a player for retiring is low.
