Plenty of trophy smooching went down in the finals of Belgrade, Estoril, and Munich yesterday. In a surprise to, well, no one, Novak claimed the title of his own tournament, defeating Lopez 7-6(4), 6-2. Djokovic is now 27-0 for the year. I think we should all make a friendly wager on when the winning streak will end. I mean, he can’t go undefeated for the year. Right?
Over in Portugal, Juan Martin del Potro looked rather dashing kissing the Estoril trophy, beating Verdasco 6-2, 6-2. This is Delpo’s 2nd title of the year (the other in Delray, d. Tipsarevic 6-4. 6-4). And he shot up 14 spots in the rankings to number 32. Can we safely declare that he is back? All I can say, is that no one to going to want him in their part of the draw in Roland Garros.
Personally, I was most excited to see Davydenko win the title in Munich, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 over Mayer.? I have greatly missed playstation Kolya, and I hope he can keep his level of play up.
Plus, you got to love how Kolya keeps it real. Screw kissing the trophy, it’s all about the car.
