Fernando Verdasco: One Man Show

Fernando may not have played a major part in Spain’s win over USA at Davis Cup, but you would never know it from the draw press conference. Though he seemed a little bored at first, he did he try to entertain himself (and us?) in various ways to make the time go by…

First he tried to follow whatever it was that Albert Costa was talking about, but he was not thrilled at what he heard. Did he just learn then that he wasn’t playing the singles rubber? Did Albert threaten to confiscate his hair gel if he couldn’t contain his double faults?

WHAT??? I can haz hair gel?!?!

Girl, you the best!

Seriously, though Fernando got a major case of the giggles. Lord knows what he found so funny. Even Granollers, unofficial head cheerleader of the armada, was like, ‘Dude, seriously? Calm down.’

Verdasco even embarrassed his bestie Feli in front of the Bryans brothers. The forced smile on Feli’s face looks like he is in pain. Our emo Feli, how Fernando makes him suffer….

Awkward…

There are many great pictures from Roland Garros. Awesome shot making, emotional celebrations, memorable moments. And then, there are the photos that are, um, none of these…

That looks painful. And gravity defying

Houston Doubles Final Highlights (video)

Quisner were close to finally beating the Bryans, but in the end the brothers were too good and won their 69th title at the ATP Houston Men’s Clay Court Championships, winning 6-7(4), 6-2, 10-5. For their sake, I hope number 70 comes sooner than later.

The way the Bryans back that thing up in unison at the 0:20 mark still cracks me up. Yes, I’m very mature.

Bryan Brothers Win Houston: Match Point & Presser (videos)

The Bryan Brothers won their 69th title, defeating Quisner 6-7(4), 6-2, 7-5 at the ATP Houston Men’s Clay Court Championships. John and Sam played well in the first set and made it competitive in the super tiebreak, but in the end the Bryans were too good.

In the press conference after the match, I asked the Bryans about the upcoming Davis Cup tie against Spain and their thoughts on playing #TeamPretty, Feliciano Lopez & Fernando Verdasco.

Phew…USA Wins, Bring on the Spaniards!

Roddick won the Davis Cup tie for team USA, defeating Capdeville 3-6, 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-3. See, Paul took a set off him too… That wasn’t such a bad loss for John, right? Right??? Sigh….

Team USA now moves on to face Spain in July. This will be the first time that the US has hosted a Davis Cup tie in 2 years. The nominated locations are Albany, NY, San Antonio, TX, and Austin, TX, and the chosen host city will be announced March 21st.

I’m originally from Albany, so I am REALLY hoping it will be there. If it is I am organizing a tennis twitter get together. If Albany is chosen and you want to join us, be sure to contact me through twitter and I will add you to the list.

As fun as that would be, it’s unfortunately not likely. Austin is Roddick’s homebase, and he has made it VERY VERY clear that is where he would want to play, saying, “It would be a dream come true to play at home.” Thanks, Andy… I am going to break the bank and still try to go. I mean, USA vs Spain? A possible Andy vs Rafa? Yes, please! ?Nadal has already stated that he will make himself available to play, if he’s not too tired. Translation: if he wins Wimbledon, don’t count on it. Still, Ferru vs Isner or Querrey? The Bryans vs Team Pretty? That is value for your money, people!

And though you all know I love my Americans, and I do, I really do, I will probably be wearing one of these….Vamos!
