Jimmy Fallon: At the Bar with Roger Federer

I am normally a big fan of the Jimmy Fallon, but I think this bit kind of falls flat. Maybe I’ve been spoiled by Pseudo Fed?

Federer & St. Elmo’s Fire? OK…. (Video)

The artist Jean-Pierre Blanchard painted a portrait of Roger Federer at the presentation of the SVC Entrepreneur Award in Zurich in four minutes. That’s an impressive feat, and it’s fantastic it was auctioned off for charity. But why did he paint to St. Elmo’s Fire? So many questions…

We Don’t Have to Take Our Clothes Off

Fellas, in the immortal words of Jermaine Stewart, you do not always have to take your clothes off on court to impress the ladies. In fact, it really can be a bit of a turn-off. Women like to use our imagination a winning smile or a smoldering stare is all we need. Here are some examples of boys melting our hearts the right way, and others who really need to keep their shirts on

Ball (and Towel) Biters (Pic Spam)

Tennis players have quite the oral fixation with their equipment. Sometimes I wonder what Freud would think of it…
Some seem to prefer to chomp down on balls
Others like to chew on towels.
Of course, Ferru is MVP of biters, munches on both. Over achiever…
Stan prefers balls
While Fed likes towels. This totally explains their relationship…
John always has a towel hanging from his mouth
But sometimes he needs a little more to chew on…
Ljubs likes to munch on his racquet. That can’t be good for your teeth…
Which is why Jo has switched to air. Got to protect them pearly whites

Knew. It.

Deep down, I kind of knew that Fed was going to end Nole’s streak. The beginning of Nole’s greatness started with his win over Roger in the US Open Semifinal. It was only fitting that it end in yet another slam final. I mean really, was Fed going to let Nole get the number 1 ranking with a win over him? OVER HIS DEAD BODY!

Though I do have admit, I was not exactly looking forward to yet another Rafole final either. It is not just that the novelty had worn off. There was just such a lack of Drama. Rome final? YAWN! And this is coming from a major fan of both Rafa and Nole. This time last year was exciting because Rafa was finally healthy and lethal. Watching him dominate was jus joyful. But then he kept winning. Wimbledon? Awesome. But by the US Open, truth be told, I was kind of bored with Rafa winning. I think it helped make Novak 2.0 this year extra sweet. Having the same guy on top in every slam…it just ain’t that compelling. I think I have realized that this is where my Federer dislike stems from: all those years of GOATiness.

So I guess we should be thankful that The Streak has ended. Novak lost before he could start to bore us with his dominance. And now there are all sorts of fun questions: how will he do on grass? Was it just one inevitable loss, or will his confidence be irredeemably shattered? See, DRAMAZ!

As for tomorrow’s Fedal final, I’m conflicted. I want Rafa to win, but I want Nole to be number one. I don’t want Fed to win, but I want Nole to be number one, etc, etc, etc. As for the actual tennis that will be played…

Yeah, I’m with these guys. I do not know who will win, but I’m thinking a straight sets win for either Nadal or Federer. A “classic” this will not be. Let’s hope I’m wrong.

But regardless of who wins, the best news of all? GRASS STARTS ON MONDAY!!! YIPPEE!!!!

Fed Fan Eats Dirt (Video)

This may make me a horrible person, but this is hilarious. Poor girl…

Ankle Boy Rolls On

Despite a chipped tooth, a crunchy ankle, a plethora of happy pills, and a less-than-stellar post Australian Open match record (What up, DY!), Andy Murray has made it to the semifinals of Roland Garros. I would congratulate him, but since he is jeopardizing his entire grass season (heh, “season”) by playing with a tear in his ankle, I’ll refrain. I mean, what’s the point of this? To prove that he’s tough? Does he really think he can beat this guy being less than 100%?

Yeah…you know, it is times like these that I am thankful that I am NOT a Murray fan., cause damn, is he infuriating.

And speaking of infuriating, please please please please please please do not let Fed win tomorrow, Grilled Cheesus. Not just because I want Djokovic to be number one (which I do), but beating super Nole and *gasp* winning a slam after everyone has written him off might turn Federror back into GOAT. DO NOT WANT!

I much prefer Fed broken and vulnerable. Because I can’t hate him when he is pathetic and losing. Please, don’t make me a hater, tennis gods!

Blah

In a match in no way resembling their last match in Paris from the fall, Fed routined Monfils 6-4, 6-3, 7-6(3). Not that surprising, frankly.

Roger will now face Nole in the semis, and even though Nole has dominated their most recent matches, I think his GOAT-iness will take this one. Fed knows he stands in the way of Djokovic’s streak, the number 1 spot, and a first trip to the finals, and he always raises his game when there’s history on the line. He is reliably annoying like that.

And since all my favorites are crashing out in drama filled 5-setters, I do not expect this match to be any different. What can I say, clay season has totally made me emo. #JankoSigh

Double Down: Bun Boys Win!

The Bun Boys’ awesomely awesome and smiley run in Indian Wells ended the only way it could, by defeating Federinka in the final 6-4, 6-7(5), 10-7. Tightly bound long hair, hugs, and smiles is clearly the best strategy in doubles.

Oh, and did I mention the unbelievable shot-making? Yeah, there was that too

Yup, it was kick ass, indeed!

He Did It…Again!

Nole defeated Roger in another Slam semifinal. That is not news in and of itself. He has done it before in hard won victories in the US Open and Australian Open. It’s HOW Nole did it. He took it to Fed in a dominant performance, winning in straight sets (STRAIGHT SETS!!) 7-6(3), 7-5, 6-4. ?

How did he do it? Well first, Nole served big, and he served consistently big. The wonky first serve and plethora of double faults that plagued him last year were no where in sight. His forehand was massive, powerful and accurate. He used it to boss Fed around the court. Novak’s forehand has always been good, but when has it been this much of a weapon? It was exceptionally good in this match.
Djokovic truly seized the opportunity that was presented. He did not lose focus or concentration. He did not go AWOL for a few games, mentally, physically, or otherwise. Yes, he went down 2-5 in the second set, but he did not give up and let the set go, which is something he would have done in the past. He believed he could come back in that set and take it. Although Nole has beaten Fed before, for the first time he played as if he knew he was the better player. Ladies and gentleman, welcome the new Novak Djokovic.

Now don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t that Fed played poorly; he did not. Perhaps too passively at times, yes, but it wasn’t that Fed did not try to implement his aggressive game. He did. But Novak’s aggressive game would not let him go on the attack. Roger was forced to stay back by the baseline and defend. He was simply out-played today.
But don’t be too sad for Fed. Despite whatever the so-called “experts” will say, he is not over and done with quite yet. A semifinal loss is not a bad result, and we all know Fed has at least another slam in him. We can all “Ajde!” today, but a GOAT is still a GOAT, and he can butt when you are not looking.
