Spanish sports stars kick the Avengers’ asses. Like the old school puppets, but this is kind of weird…and creepy. I mean…WHAT IS THIS?!
What a Point!: AO 2012 Final Edition (Video)
Recap and thoughts on the 2012 Australian Open final between Nadal and Djokovic are on the way, but in the meantime enjoy what was one of the best points in the match. Such grit and determination from both players. And Novak is so tired at the end of it, it makes me want to take a sympathy nap.
And I hope to be doing more posts on great points. Have one in mind? Shoot me a suggestion.
Nadal Kia Open Drive (Video)
I have to say I love this series with Kia that asks players questions during a car ride to the event. Enjoy Nadal answering questions and looking mildly embarrassed. “Blonde or brunette” “Both things can work really well. Whut?!

WTF Gala: The Best Bar Mitzvah Party in Tennis
The ATP celebrated the kick-off of the World Tour Finals in style with their ‘A Night With The Stars’ gala. Though from the pics, it looks more like it was the Bar Mitzvah party none of them ever had. Damn, all they were missing were some glow-in-the-dark necklaces and the Electric Slide! All the typical stereotypes were there: the nerdy-cool couple, Nole and Jelena. Loving the hipster glasses and side-braid, girl. No really, I do. #NERDS4LIFE
There was the a$$hole who thinks he’s hotter than he actually is, who broke your friend’s heart because he’s a d****e, and then has the NERVE to bring some new slutty girl from the next district over (she doesn’t even GO to this school).
There was the couple decided to wear coordinating outfits…of grey. Love the shoes, but what Muppet had to die to make that dress!
And tell me that this pair did not come from a time warp from 1995! I swear I have a stack of photos where I look exactly like this. I mean, the HAIR! The black pantyhose! Takes me back…of course none of the guys who danced with me were quite as good looking as Rafa. Ah well…

Armani’s Behind the Scenes with Rafael Nadal
Rafa running and tearing off his clothes? Don’t mind if I do…
Though I do wonder exactly how Armani pitched this to him. “You’re wearing a suit, like James Bond. You’re running, someone is chasing you. And then, as your running, you strip to your underwear. It is FASHION!”
Or something like that, I’m sure…

I See London, I See France, I See…Hot Damn!
Dudi Sela showed off his enormous…head racquet, among his other assests, in an interview with the Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronot. I always considered Dudi adorkable, but who knew he was friggin ripped? Damn, son…
Sela is just the latest player following the hottest trend in the ATP: stripping down to yo skivvies for the cameras.
Janko Tipsarevic recently posed in an ad campaign for Extreme Intimo
And of course we have all seen Rafa’s numerous ads for Armani underwear
Be sure to give it up to the one who started the craze: who else, Fernando Verdsaco in an ad for Calvin Klein underwear
I don’t know about you, but I hope that this is a trend that never goes out of style.

So. Much. Pretty.
Love Me Some Davis Cup Draw Pics
Davis Cup is great for many reasons: bringing the team dynamic to an individual sport, the honor of playing for your country, and, of course, thunderstix. But the best thing about DC by far is the pictures from the many draw ceremonies. All our favorite players together in matching outfits smiling and giggling? Epic win!
Smiling, shaking hands, posing adorably?! I mean…come on!
Of course, Vik isn’t quite down with the smiling and giggling. Does anyone else do bitch face better?
Bahahahahhahaha (he’s short)
*meow* indeed, Delpo

Fish Defeats Nadal, Hugs for Everyone!
Mardy Fish defeated Rafael Nadal for the very first time, winning 6-3, 6-4 yesterday in Cincinnati. Despite losing their previous 6 meetings, Fish was able to finally come through with the win. Sure, Rafa was not playing his best (how many times did we have to hear about his bandaged fingers he burnt on a plate in a restaurant?!), but all credit to Mardy for playing really well.
How did Fish celebrate his win? How else: HUGS! Got to give #1 some love. Either that, or he is striking a “tough” and “street” pose a la an old Backstreet Boys video
So yeah…going with the self love interpretation. But not to worry, he had love to give to Rafa too. Got to be gracious in victory too!
Love thyself…and then love thy neighbor. That’s totally how that saying goes, right? Well, at least in tennis it does.
Mardy also clinched the US Open Series. He will get a $1 million bonus if he goes on to win the US Open. No one in men’s tennis has ever accomplished that, but I guess there can be a first for everything. At least he gets a nifty trophy to celebrate the amazing summer he has had.
Though on side note, can we talk about the shirt? “GOGOGO! Tubes”? Who…what…what the hell does that mean? He knows he is going to be photographed in that thing, is he sending secret messages through his shirts now? So many questions…
Anyhoo, congrats to Mardy. He takes on Murray today in the semifinals. Fish has a 4-3 record over Muzz and he has won their last three meetings. Although Andy has played well this week, got to think Mardy has the momentum going into this match and defeat Murray. This may be Fish’s best chance yet to win a Masters title. We’ll have to wait and see if he can finally do it.

Seeds Washed Out

Following Andy Murray’s lead earlier in the week, many more top players crashed out of Montreal, the biggest surprised being Nadal’s loss to Dodig, 1-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(5). I gave up watching and went to sleep during the 2nd set tiebreak, thinking that Rafa had this one in the bag. When will I ever learn to never think a match is over until it is actually over?
Dodig certainly did not give up. Think this win clearly meant a lot to him?
He will face Tipsarevic today, who got a revenge win over Fernando Verdasco, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-3. I think Tipsy is going to prevail in this one. Not only did he dominate their last match their last match earlier this year in Delray (7-6(0), 6-1), but Janko has been playing really well lately. Then again, if Dodig can beat Nadal, I would not count him out against anyone.
Mardy Fish got a revenge win of his own over Feliciano Lopez, winning 6-2, 6-3. Nice to see he has put his devastating (to me, at least) loss to Feli behind him. And now with both Murray and Nadal gone from his half of the draw, his path to the final certainly looks brighter.
Speaking of bright (yellow, that is), Cilic had a surprisingly dominate win over Del Potro, 6-3, 6-4. On the one hand, it’s really great to see Marin playing well again, but it’s also rather disheartening to see Delpo struggle.
Cilic will take on Djokovic today, who had a scare himself in his match against Davydenko. Kolya showed glimpses of his dangerous form of a couple years ago in the first set, but Novak showed why he is the world number one and accordingly upped the level of his game to win 7-5, 6-1.
Somehow I do not think we are done seeing surprise upsets at Montreal. Like the rain, they are likely to keep coming. Look for Anderson, Karlovic, and Gulbis to make some noise today. Although it’s never fun to see our favorites lose, seeing players other than the top four make deep runs in big tournaments is defintely something I could get used to.
