ATP Newport Draw Party Pics

The players came out to the ATP Newport draw ceremony to kick off the start of grass season in the US ;) Here, John Isner, David Goffin, Olivier Rochus, and Milos Raonic posed for pics.

As the defending champion, John Isner addressed a few words to the crowd. He drew a qualifier in the first round but is due to play Mahut in the second round. It is a fundamental law that you cannot have a grass tournament with Isner and Mahut in the draw and not have the possibility of their playing each other.

Olivier Rochus, Milos Raonic, and Kei Nishikori did their best to pretend they were listening while John was talking. Rochus will play Soeda in his first round match, Raonic will face Matthew Ebden, and Nishikori gets Sjisling.

I think this is the first time that Nishikori has played Newport. He did well at Wimbledon, and he should have a good tournament here.

It was a great kick off to the event. This is one of the strongest draws that the tournament has ever had. If you have a chance, definitely come down to Newport this week to check out some great tennis!

So. Much. Pretty.

What more can you ask for in one picture? Pico, Ferru, Muzz, Rafa, Janko, Vik, and Kei all cleaned up in nice clothes at the Japan Open player party!

Oh, and Radek was there too…

Oof

Not the best day for many players today in Rome. In a surprise to, frankly, no one, Roddick lost in straight sets to Simon, 6-3, 6-3. Andy has now lost 4 matches in a row. Oy vey. Well, at least clay season is almost over, right?

Dolgopolov also lost 6-3, 6-3 today to Starace. After such a strong start to the year, especially in the Latin clay court season, I thought Dolly would have done more damage on the European clay. Hopefully he will turn it around by the French Open.

And in probably the worst news of the day, Gael Monfils and Kei Nishikori, who were due to play each other, both had to pull out of the tournament. Gael is apparently still suffering from le fromage and Kei is suffering from kidney stones. That sounds incredibly painful, best wishes for a fast recovery.

Good News on Day 1 of the AO

It wasn’t all upsets and bad news on the opening day of the Australian Open. Fed, Rod, and Nole all rolled in their matches with straight set wins.
Fer actually won a match that he was supposed to win, defeating Schuettler 6-1, 6-3, 6-2.?
Janko also won in straight sets over Zverev 6-3, 6-1, 6-4
Pico won over Greul 7-6, 7-6, 6-2?
Simon defeated Lu 6-7, 6-2,6-4, 6-2?. But that kit has got to go. Is he yachting or playing tennis?
Kohlschreiber and Fish came from 2 sets down to pull it out in 5. This was especially impressive for Mardy since he was reportedly sick in bed all week. Just hope that wasn’t a pyrrhic victory and has nothing left in the tank for his next match.

Nishikori was also impressive, taking out Eyebrows 6-1, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4. Thinking (hoping?) he’s due for a major break out from the pack this year. The BG effect can only be a win

And Mahut continues to warm out hearts (cause real men plays qualies), winning in 3 over Dabul. Normally, I would be totally excited about this, and don’t get me wrong, I am. But now he has to play Troicki.

It’s going to be a battle of Bambi vs. Thumper. Just hope it isn’t too much of a bloodbath.
(Ajde, Vik)?

Meanwhile in Chennai

Janko and his sexy-time Hugh Hefner pajamas took out Kei Nishikori in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. He takes on Xavier Malisse next. I’m loving Tipsy’s chances of getting to the final.

You did well this week, kid. Wait, is that a Casio watch?? Are they a sponsor? Heh, suck it, Rafa…

I Feel Your Pain, Marin

Nishikori kicks my ass on the Wii ALL THE TIME! Then again, I’m not a professional tennis player. Or the tournament’s defending champion. Or about to kiss my ranking points buh-bye…
Nevermind, it totally sucks to be you…but on the brightside, no more fugly Hugh Hefner pajama looking Fila kit? Sigh…see you at the AO.?
