Mardy Fish’s Serve Hits Lineswoman (Video)

If there is one thing we have learned this grass season, it’s that being a line judge is dangerous business. Thankfully, this time it was purely accidental. And since she’s okay, it’s rather funny too.

And how sweet was Jo checking to make sure she was okay. I know many a girl who would take a ball to the face to get Jo’s attention…

Middle Sunday

Because after all the fun we had during the first week of Wimbledon, we all need a day to recover. Right, Jo?

Right, is it Monday yet?

Caption This: Lick It, Jo

There are so many dirty jokes that I could make here, but my parents read my blog, so I’m going to turn it over to you dirty birds. Give me your best caption!

Cats Like Tsonga Too (Video)

We all know that Jo is rather mesmerizing to look at. But who knew his appeal transcended species? ;)

Montreal Crowd Boos Tsonga’s Retirement (Video)

I have many pet peeves with tennis crowds (I probably should do a full post on that at some point) but up there at the very top is booing a player who is forced to retire because of an injury.

I understand the crowd is upset that they shelled out money for semifinal tickets and did not get to watch a full match. Trust me, I completely get the disappointment. If I had paid through the nose to watch Djokovic and Tsonga and one of them retired, I would need more than a few beers as compensation.

But you have to understand when you buy your tickets that, excuse my French, shit happens. This is a very physical sport; people get hurt all the time. Just because you paid to see a full match does not mean that a full match will be played. That is the risk you take when you watch tennis live. It does not happen all the time, but retirements can (and will) happen.

So to make a player who already feels horrible about not being able to compete (because they are in physical pain) feel even worse by booing them is just absolutely unacceptable. You think you are disappointed? Magnify that by 100 and you still will not be even close to how the player feels. They train and prepare all year for huge matches like a Masters semifinal. The level of devastation that Tsonga must have felt at not being able to play just does not compare to yours.

So next time you are at a match and an injured player retires, instead of booing, how about you give him or her a standing ovation? Show your appreciation and support to them for laying it all on the line. Lift them up when they are at one of their lowest moments. I mean, you are a tennis fan, right?

Nole Wins Best Point of Wimbledon…Again (Video)

Got to love how Djokovic and Tsonga threw themselves (literally) into each and every point in the Wimbledon Semifinals today. Ajde, Nole!

Allez!

Of all the quarterfinal match-ups, I thought that the one between Jo and Fed would be the most routine. Fed would bulldoze over Tsonga as he has in pretty much all their slam meetings. I could not have been happier to have been more wrong. Despite losing the first two set, Jo did the previously unimaginable, and beat Roger 3-6, 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.

I honestly cannot remember the last the last time I got chills watching a match. Seeing Jo finally break through was pure tennis joy. I would even be ok if he beats my Nole in the next round. And let’s be real, for me, that’s saying a lot…

I truly hope that Jo can keep this level of play up and that we can now talk about him as a major contender, and not as a player who has the talent to be great but can never put it all together. In other words Jo, please please please don’t pull a Berdych on us.

We Don’t Have to Take Our Clothes Off

Fellas, in the immortal words of Jermaine Stewart, you do not always have to take your clothes off on court to impress the ladies. In fact, it really can be a bit of a turn-off. Women like to use our imagination a winning smile or a smoldering stare is all we need. Here are some examples of boys melting our hearts the right way, and others who really need to keep their shirts on

Dives and Hi-Fives (Video)

Tsonga and Dimitrov’s match today was perhaps one of the most entertaining yet. And both guys seemed to be having a great time playing one another. Check out this diving highlight

Got to love Jo giving Grisha a hi-five for making that great diving shot. And once it was all over, hugs all around.

Why can’t all matches be like this? Great tennis, great sportsmanship, great for the game.

Tweeners Never Prosper (Video)

Apparently Murray is not aware of the curse of the tweener: if you successfully hit one, you lose the tournament. Or maybe he figured it didn’t count since it was a front facing tweener. Or maybe he thought the bad juju of the first one would be cancelled out by the second one. Like a double negative. I suppose one of those reasonings worked, since he did win the title. Either that or he’s cursed himself forever from winning Wimbledon. Cheeky…
